Angel ornaments are flooding into the Bible Society’s Offices

TORONTO. Canada, December 16, 2003 — In the Bible, angels were God's messengers, bringing good news to His people. This Christmas season, throngs of Angels, in the form of Christmas ornaments, are gathering at the Canadian Bible Society (CBS) National Support Office.

Hallways are full of angels due to the overwhelming response of supporters wishing to share the Good News
The angels have particular meaning for the CBS ministry - they are a symbol of the support and encouragement of Canadians who are passionate about the Bible. Each supporter becomes like a messenger (or angel) of the Good News because they help provide much needed and wanted Bibles to people in 200 countries around the world. This idea comes from the Bible passage in the Gospel of Luke which reads:

"Suddenly a great army of heaven's angels appeared with the angel, singing praises to God: 'Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth...'"

Christmas trees and entire hallways are covered with these colourful Good News Angels, each of which was sent in by a Bible Society supporter. More than five thousand ornaments have already come in, with eight thousand expected by the end of the year.

"The overwhelming response reaffirms that the Word of God is still a vital part of Canadian life," says Glen Pitts, the Bible Society's National Director. "For every one of these angels there's a Canadian who wants to share the Bible's message of hope with the world."

The Canadian Bible Society is part of the United Bible Societies, a worldwide fellowship striving to translate and publish Bibles into the more than 6,000 languages and dialects of the world, and provide the means for every person to receive his or her own copy. The CBS National Support Office is located at 10 Carnforth Road at the corner of Lawrence avenue East (near Victoria Park) in Toronto.
