Chicago, USA - November 26, 2002 The company that produced the biblically-based animated feature film, Jonah - A VeggieTales Movie, is already hard at work on what they hope will become another big screen hit. Big Idea Productions, the creators of VeggieTales, expect to have The Bob and Larry Movie in theatres in 2005.
Saying plans for the new production are a response to "the overwhelming success" of their debut effort Jonah movie (that film has earned a domestic gross of over $24 million U.S. since its release in October), a company news release indicates the film is in the pre-production phase of development.
In an October interview with Bible Network News, Dan Philips, Vice-President of Production for the family media company described the plot of the new film.
The new film 'is sort of a prequel'
"All the Veggie Tales (videos) have various episodes, and it's always Bob and Larry putting on some kind of a show. (The new feature film) is sort of a prequel. (It) tells how they first met and what causes them to actually do that. It's about how they ran into each other, and what led them to start making these episodes. It tells the story of how ... they have to go out and get jobs, so Bob decides he wants to go into the media, and he wants to be involved in television broadcasting, so there's a lot that's centred around the local station."
The film will feature the first humans to appear within a VeggieTales story
Artisan's FHE Pictures (distributors of Jonah) will retain all North American rights to the film. Said FHE President Glenn Ross, "Jonah - A VeggieTales Movie delivered a top quality production with an entertaining story line that appealed to a diverse audience. We hope to see even greater success on this film than we did with Jonah."
Recognized as a leading producer and creator of values-based family entertainment material reflecting a Judeo-Christian worldview, Big Idea has sold more than 30 million videos and nearly three million music/comedy albums since 1993.
