MONTREAL, Quebec, August 14, 2006 Summer might feel like it is flying by for most Canadians, but for the 75 cyclists making their way from Victoria to St. John's Newfoundland with the Canadian Bible Society's Bike for Bible's Centennial Ride, it is one joyful day of pedaling after another. Mixed with a lot of hard work of course.
The cyclists wrapped up Leg #6 of the Centennial Ride, logging more than 800 kms from Fergus, Ont. to Montreal. This leg of the journey took seven days, with one rest day to tour Ottawa. New Brunswick is clearly in sight now as the cyclists make their way through beautiful Quebec and begin Leg #7 of their cross country odyssey.
To date, the cyclists and crew have traveled more than 5,450 kms, through six provinces, in 43 days (36 days of cycling and seven rest and recreation days).
In each community where the cyclists stop for meal or overnight breaks, local churches and Canadian Bible Society staff offer food, accommodations and well-deserved rest for the cyclists. Local businesses in many communities have been very generous, donating food and other supplies for the team.
Each participant has given up part of their summer and raised more than $5000 to participate.
All the funds raised will help the Canadian Bible Society in their work of translating, publishing, distributing and encouraging the use of Scripture in Canada today. Supported by Canadians coast to coast, the Canadian Bible Society is one of Canada's oldest and most diverse Christian organizations.
