MARKHAM, Canada, June 6, 2002 Christian writers from across Canada are preparing to gather once again, for their annual trade conference, God Uses Ink. This year's meeting, which is expected to draw 200 writers and editors from coast-to-coast, is themed "Write with Power and Grace", and will be held at the Guelph Bible Conference Centre in Guelph, Ontario, June 13 - 15.
This is the 18th year for the conference, but the first time it is being organized by The Word Guild (www.thewordguild.com), a new, professional association for Canadian writers and editors who are Christian. In the past, the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada was the primary sponsor of the event.
Organizers are enthusiastic. "This year's God Uses Ink conference promises to be the biggest and most varied ever," said Nancy J. Lindquist, director of The Word Guild and conference chair.
For writers of all types, at all stages
Those planning the event say God Uses Ink is for writers of all types, at all stages. It is a conference designed to provide writers and editors (from the novice to the experienced) with opportunities to network with others of like values, learn new skills, and increase their visibility.
And if history is any indication, according to Wendy Nelles, an event organizer for 14 years, it is a design that works. "God Uses Ink has impacted the lives of hundreds of people over the years. We hear stories all the time of people who've been inspired, and learned the skills needed to get published. Many of the people whose names appear in Canadian Church Press publications have attended or taught at God Uses Ink."
For a conference fee of $255, this year's participants can choose one of six tracks of continuing classes and up to three of 18 stand-alone workshops. The conference will also feature panel discussions, sessions with keynote speaker, Michael Coren and the annual God Uses Ink awards for Canadian writing.
