TORONTO, Canada, February 3, 2003 — The company that produced word-for-word film adaptations of the Bible's gospel of Matthew and book of Acts, has begun filming its first feature length motion picture designed for theatrical release.

Visual Bible International, Inc. announced in a news release this week, that principal photography has commenced on The Gospel of John, in southern Spain.

The film's script is taken word-for-word, from the book of John, out of the American Bible Society's Good News Bible.

The Gospel of John will be a three hour epic

The January 27 news release, distributed on Business Wire, says the film will be a three-hour-epic, and will "depict an historically accurate recreation of the best known and most widely read of the Gospels, including an original musical score with instrumental sounds of the period."

"We believe that a significant market exists for quality Christian faith-based films and home entertainment products that remain faithful to the scriptures," said Dr. Steven Small, Chairman of the publicly owned company, in the release. "This film will provide millions of people an opportunity to understand this inspiring book in today's preferred, visual medium."

This is the third production for Visual Bible, and the first since the company restructured, reorganized and refinanced last June.

Theatrical release planned for September 2003

Plans are for The Gospel of John to be ready for limited theatrical release in early September 2003. The company says they will run a concurrent direct response marketing campaign of the film on video and DVD.

Once exterior scenes are completed in approximately four weeks time, production will move to a Toronto studio, where interior sequences will be filmed.

Visual Bible International intends to produce a film version of each of the 66 books of the Bible. The Gospel of Mark is reportedly in development.
