UNITED STATES, January 16, 2007 A new partnership agreement between the American Bible Society (ABS) and the world’s largest producer and distributor of Christian content for mobile phones is allowing users to download part or all of the Bible quickly and easily to read as they go about their daily lives.
Combining Virtual Bible technology developed jointly by South Africa’s Christian Mobile and Kuuasema, a Finnish mobile technology company, with Bible texts supplied by ABS, the new service gives subscribers to seven different networks the opportunity to purchase part or all of the Good News Bible, the Contemporary English Version and, for Spanish speakers, the Reina Valera 1960 Bible.
“The American Bible Society is pleased to partner with Christian Mobile to distribute Scripture in an innovative and highly accessible format,” says John Cruz, Vice-President of Bible Publishing. “Through this creative technology, people can read the Bible’s messages of inspiration, strength, courage and hope on their cell phones whenever and wherever they wish.”
Christian Mobile offers a wide range of Christian-themed mobile content including music videos, ringtones and daily inspirational messages. Currently establishing mobile portals worldwide, its plans include offering further Spanish Bible versions and Russian and Portuguese versions. It is just as positive as ABS about the potential for supplying the Bible in this format.
“We are honoured to be involved in the worldwide mobile distribution of the Bible to help spread the Word of God,” says Bertrus Preller, Marketing Executive. “Providing the Bible through mobile technology is another channel to spread the Bible’s important message.”
