Egypt, Sept. 24 The Bible Society of Egypt has just published a Scripture selection to help Egyptians in their response to the tragic terrorist attacks in the USA.
The cover has three dramatic pictures of the World Trade Center under attack with the words "Lord have mercy!" written on top of them. The back cover has the verse "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.."(Ps.46:1)
Inside the selection a brief introduction focuses on the shock of the attack and the need to base our response of God's Word. It then goes on to emphasize the fact that God is against violence of any kind and calls the readers to eschew violence in all its forms.
There are then four headings each followed by Scripture verses:
- God rejects Cain's violence (Gen 4:8-11)
- God rejects King David' violence (1 Chr. 28:2,3,6a)
- God rejects the shedding of blood (Eze. 33:25,26)
- Jesus rejects violence (Matt. 26:47-54; Matt. 5:21,22)
The selection came out in time for some Churches in Cairo to distribute it at services on the first Sunday after the tragedy. It is being produced in large numbers and will be distributed all over the country.
During these very difficult days we need to encourage people to return to God's Word for comfort, guidance and direction.
