BAGHDAD, Iraq, September 5, 2002 — A 70-year old Chaldean Christian nun was brutally murdered on August 15, 2002 by Muslim attackers in an act that has terrorized Iraqi Christians.

Sister Cecilia Hanna was knifed savagely and her head was then severed from the rest of her body by the attackers. She was staying in the Chaldean monastery located on Palestine Street in Baghdad.

The Chaldean Patriarch, Mar Rophael BeDaweed I, sent a letter to Iraqi officials strongly condemning this criminal act and demanding justice.

Sister Cecilia Hanna was born in 1931 in the Chaldean town of Araden in northern Iraq. In her early teens she joined the Order of Heart of Jesus for nuns where she served the Iraqi people till her martyrdom. The Order of Heart of Jesus was established in 1904 by Father Ablahad Rayes.
