MALAYSIA, July 23, 2007 Many representatives of Dusun-speaking churches attended the recent dedication of the revised Dusun Bible. And for Dusun Christians who were unable to attend this event, a roadshow is currently bringing their new Bible into the heart of their community.
Dusun is one of the main indigenous languages in the province of Sabah, northern Borneo. The first edition of the Bible in this language was launched in 1990. In response to feedback from Dusun pastors, the Bible Society of Malaysia implemented some revisions over the years that followed. The outcome of this revision work was dedicated at the Borneo Evangelical Church in Likas, Kota Kinabalu, on July 4, at a service held in conjunction with the Borneo Evangelical Church Conference on Evangelism and Mission.
Following a welcome delivered by Bible Society General Secretary Joel Ng, the service proceeded with hymns and readings in both Malay and Dusun. The address was given by UBS Translation Coordinator the Rev Dr Daud Soesilo, who highlighted the importance of making God’s Word the foundation of life. Finally, a prayer of dedication was offered by the Rev Datuk Voo Thien Fui, Bishop of the Basel Christian Church of Malaysia and President of the Sabah Council of Churches.
The roadshow which is now touring Dusun-speaking churches in smaller towns around Kota Kinabalu will give many local Christians the opportunity to obtain their own copy of the revised Dusun Bible.
“Please pray that the Bible will be well received and that many will be blessed from reading it,” asks the Bible Society.
